How we keep your tagging accurate
Most iXBRL errors come from four sources. Each one has a specific control in our process.
1
Standard elements before extensions
We search the US GAAP or IFRS taxonomy first. When no standard element fits your disclosure, we create a custom extension, anchor it to the closest standard element, and record why it was needed. You receive the full extension list with every filing.
2
Consistency with your prior filings
Before tagging a new period, we roll forward the tags from your last filing, so each line item keeps the same element, sign and period type from quarter to quarter. If a change is needed, we flag it to you rather than making it silently.
3
Calculation, sign and scale checks
We confirm that totals reconcile, that negative values are entered the way each element defines them, and that amounts reported in thousands or millions carry the correct scale.
4
Two layers of validation
Every filing is tested against EDGAR Filer Manual requirements and XBRL US Data Quality Committee rules. A second specialist then reviews the tagging against your document before it reaches your team.

How our iXBRL service works
From first draft to EDGAR acceptance.
Kick-off and roll-forward
You share your draft and filing calendar. We bring forward the tags from your last filing and update them to the current SEC-accepted taxonomy.
First tagged draft
You receive the EDGAR HTML with complete tagging, on a turnaround agreed at kick-off. Your draft doesn't need to be final for work to begin.
Review in the iXBRL viewer
You see the document exactly as the SEC and investors will, with the tag behind every number visible. Comments from your team, auditors and counsel are worked through in review rounds, with no limit on the number of rounds.
Filing week
Late changes are applied to the text and the tags together and re-validated before they come back to you. Our team works 24/7/365, including nights and weekends, and your dedicated account manager coordinates every round.
Test filing, live filing and acceptance
We run a test submission on EDGAR, file live once you sign off, and share the acceptance confirmation. Your tag map is then updated, ready for the next period.
What goes into an SEC iXBRL filing?
An iXBRL filing is your EDGAR HTML document with machine-readable tags embedded in it. Producing one involves four distinct execution pieces.
1. EDGAR HTML conversion
We convert your Word, Excel or PDF drafts into EDGAR-compliant HTML that matches your approved document, including tables, footnotes, page breaks and formatting.
2. Financial statement and notes tagging
SEC rules require four levels of tagging, and we complete all of them:
- the face financial statements
- each note and significant accounting policy, tagged as a block of text
- each table within the notes
- every individual amount disclosed in the notes (detail tagging)
3. Cover page tagging
We work on the Document and Entity Information (DEI) on your cover page, including registrant name, CIK, filer category, shell company status, trading symbols, exchanges and shares outstanding, on Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, 20-F and 40-F.
4. Dimensions and calculations
We ensure segment, product and geographic breakdowns are tagged with the right axes and members, and calculation relationships are built so that totals, subtotals and signs reconcile in the data, not just on the page.

How is an iXBRL service different from a financial printer?
A financial printer typically focuses on typesetting, EDGARization and printing, and may treat XBRL as a separate step. An iXBRL service treats the HTML and the structured data as one deliverable, prepared, validated and filed by the same team.
Do smaller reporting companies have to file in iXBRL?
Yes. The SEC phased iXBRL in by filer size, and all operating companies, including smaller reporting companies, have been required to use it for fiscal periods ending on or after June 15, 2021.

What happens if the SEC questions our XBRL tagging?
SEC staff can raise XBRL issues in comment letters. We review the tagging in question, explain the choices made, and help you prepare the response and any corrections.

Can tagging errors in past filings be corrected?
Yes. Depending on the error, corrections are made in your next periodic filing or through an amended filing. We review your prior filings and recommend an approach with you and your counsel.
Can we switch to DataTracks partway through the year?
Yes. We can tag a past filing first so you can compare the result with what you filed before you commit.
How do annual taxonomy updates affect our filings?
The US GAAP and IFRS taxonomies are updated each year. We move your tags to the version the SEC accepts and flag any elements that have changed or been deprecated before your next filing.
