Pillar 2 Tax Filing Rollout Puts Software Providers to the Test

The first Pillar Two filing season tested the readiness of regulatory reporting software providers as multinational businesses navigated evolving tax authority requirements, complex validation rules and jurisdiction-specific filing challenges.

In the second installment of its series on the inaugural global minimum tax reporting cycle, Tax Notes features insights from Prakash Ramachandran, Head of Product for BEPS and Pillar 2 at DataTracks, and Saurabh Satija, UK Business Head for BEPS and Pillar 2.

The article examines how software providers prepared for the first GloBE Information Return (GIR) deadline and adapted to unexpected technical issues, including late-opening filing portals, changing XML validation requirements and differences between tax authority systems.

Prakash explains how DataTracks incorporated validation checks into its Pillar Two reporting product, enabling users to identify and correct data issues during preparation. He also discusses how the company responded to regulatory developments through frequent cloud-based updates, helping customers work with current validation requirements.

Saurabh provides additional context on DataTracks’ experience in OECD-related regulatory reporting and its preparations for the first Pillar Two filing cycle.

Featuring perspectives from several established technology and advisory providers, the article highlights the importance of responsive software development, regulatory expertise and effective validation processes in supporting multinational organizations through increasingly complex tax reporting obligations.
